10,000 Maniacs and Counting...
...and I mean "maniacs" in the best sense of the word ;-) Sometime today the visitor counter will hit the 10,000 mark, and I think this milestone requires a special post in honour not just of of the 10,000th visitor, but in tribute to all of you who have visited here over the past two years. Now I know that the actual number of people who have visited is far less than 10,000, because anyone who views multiple pages in one visit will crank up the counter, just as Ray does when he hits the refresh button repeatedly during his morning coffee (or should I say Coke?) break. So I'd like to take this opportunity to offer my sincere thanks to each of my readers for helping to keep this crazy thing going. I couldn't do it without you. (Okay, that's not strictly true; I could do it without you, but it wouldn't be nearly as much fun.)
Special note to Visitor # 10,000, whoever and wherever you are: If you contact me as soon as you hit the magic number, I will send you your very special prize! This is a one-time offer, valid today only, not available in stores!!
Happy Easter, everybody!! (And yes, more photos and posts are on the way. Really. Seriously. No half of a lie. )

Hi, I'm a french blogger and recent reader of your blog.
Glad to be in this special note ;o)
I'm passionate for the Arctic world. And I'll try to read you more.

So who do you think is #10,000? HAHA, I hit a couple of pages before this so I cheated.

Is it me, is it me? Oh darn, I just saw the counter, I'm 10,002. I'll bet the person before me hit refresh! Har. So close. I don't know if I've commented before, have been reading for a month or so, I love all the arctic blogs. I'll actually be in Ulukhaktok in late May, maybe I'll run into you in person.

Ten Thousand is a good number, not just for your blog, Mark, but for Easter too. There is an old Hymn that contains a line something like, "He could have sent 10,000 angels.." referring to God intervening in the crucifixion and stopping the process of Redemption by sparing "His own Son" from suffering. We, who celebrate the Resurrection this weekend, know how that story played out and that is the significance of the verb tense "could have sent"...i.e. it was possible to do this, but to what end? A greater good was to be served by the suffering.
So, how appropriate to acknowledge the 10,000th person visiting the blog, sometime this Easter weekend?

Another special deal, today only: FOUR comments for the price of one!!
Bonjour "Legweak" - interesting name! Nice to know that someone in France is reading this blog. I hope you won't be offended by my recent comments about the riot-crazed French public - it's all in good fun, n'est-ce pas?
Congratulations, L, on being the 10,000th visitor, although our panel of judges are currently discussing whether your "strategic refreshing" disqualifies you from the grand prize. I'll keep you posted on their final decision.
Hello Nancy - sorry you just missed the magic number, but welcome anyway, and thanks for reading! I'll look forward to meeting you in late May when you visit here.
Terry (aka TW) - Once again you fail to disappoint in displaying your awe-inspiring knowledge and wisdom in all things philosophical, spiritual and soteriological. Who knew that the number 10,000 had such synchronicitous significance for the Easter weekend? Not I, that's for sure. And 10,000 maniacs can transform into 10,000 angels in the blink of an eye. It all depends on one's point of view, doesn't it? :-)

Lol...your counter thingy is so not accurate. I've been disconnected 4 times trying to post this comment, and every time I came back, the counter kept climbing. I also viewed some of the comments you've just posted, and I went from number 10,453 to 10,460. You should send Nancy your prize. It would be nice if one of your southern readers gets something from up here. Oh and FYI, I did not hit the refresh button. I just viewed a couple of other pages.
Anyways, I like your prints. Nice. I come from a talented family of artists, but I don't have a drawing hand. My grandmother was nominated for an Academy Award in the early seventies for a short film based on her work.
See you at volleyball.
