A "Char"-Broiled Feast

A "Char"-Broiled Feast

One thing I learned from meeting and talking with the local community at the picnic is that the native people in this region are usually referred to as Inuvialuit, which is the western Arctic version of Inuit. A few people also apparently still occasionally use "Eskimo" to refer to themselves. My sense is that Eskimo is viewed in the same way as "Indian" elsewhere: obsolete, inappropriate, but still hanging on in some quarters. I was told that Eskimo ("eaters of raw meat") was a derogatory term coined by the Dene people to describe the Inuit. Did I mention the spectacular scenery here (and everywhere around Holman)?
