With all of the wolf & polar bear spottings around here lately, I thought I should be extra careful out there. So now, when I go out for walks by myself, I carry this baby in my front parka pocket, within easy reach. I realize that even a knife as fearsome as this one probably won't do much good against a wolf pack or charging polar bear (and any blow I might be lucky enough to land will likely just make him angrier). In any case, I feel a little more secure with this in my pocket. I could use the matches to scare any aggressive animals off, or threaten them with the fish hooks, the needles or the saw blade. In a pinch I could use the flint to sharpen my own nails and teeth to even the odds a bit. At the very least, I can throw the knife at the wolf pack to distract them momentarily while I run for my life.
