On Sunday, Dec. 18, we were informed that there would be a special meeting at the hotel for the community to meet the regional RCMP chief from Yellowknife, with a surprise bonus appearance by the newest canine addition to the force. Now the Chief was a very pleasant and personable fellow, and he made a fine speech and everything, but let's be honest: the dog was the big draw for most of the people there. And with good reason. It's not every day that you get to get up close and personal (and well within biting range) of a Danish super-police-dog, purchased by the RCMP from those crazy (but still "Great") Danes for a measly $70,000 (US).
