“Spooked Fisherman”

“Spooked Fisherman”

This print and the seven that follow are all by Mary Okheena, one of the best-known of the Holman artists, although she now lives in Inuvik. I bought these from her when I visited her in Inuvik a few weeks ago. (Her son is in my Grade 12 Social Studies class.) I absolutely love her work. (Note to my family: I know it ruins the surprise somewhat, but each of you will be receiving one of these prints for Christmas, but you won't know which one!) I also need to point out that of course these photos don't do justice to the beauty of Mary's artwork. She told me that this piece was inspired by her own experience one day when she was ice-fishing, and she felt that a nearby inukshuk was moving every time she turned her back. Spooky!
