Batten Down the Hatches!
"I did! I did! I DID batten down the hatches!"
"Well, batten 'em down again! We'll teach those hatches!"
I don't care that the above dialogue has to do with ships, not planes - I'll take any excuse to quote from a classic Looney Tunes cartoon.
This was the sight that greeted us upon landing back in Holman today from Inuvik (Tues., Oct. 4): Two Canadian military planes, with soldiers milling around and covering the wings with tarps to protect them for the night. We found out that they were trying to get to a remote inland area to prepare it for a large, mysterious excursion which is planned for the spring. The weather forced them to return to Holman for a second night. Tomorrow they're going to try again from Sach's Harbour, a smaller community to the north of Holman. You just never know what excitement and intrigue lie in wait just around the corner up here!
