There were only three to choose from at this early stage, but it was clear to me right away that this one had to be the cover for this month, if only because I didn't realize how starved I was for a glimpse of branches and trees after 2 months in Holman :) Of course, it may be displaced by another photo yet to be taken, but the smart money is still on this one to finish well out in front of the competition. (Note: The smart money seems to have lost, since another shot has replaced this one as the cover after all. Oh well, the month is still young...) This is a view from a hilltop roadside out through the trees to the open water, and it was breathtaking. (Prospective visitors to Inuvik may be interested to know that the road winds around and down to the Inuvik liquor store, a local landmark which I discovered purely by accident, and of course had no need to visit, since I was already enjoying a spectacular "natural high" from the scenic delights on display here.)
(Bonus points to anyone who caught the Jane Siberry reference in the title.)
