What better way to open the October Volume than this picture of one of Inuvik's legendary local "characters," known to some as Kokanee Dave, out for a brisk early morning walk to work, which in this case is the Home Hardware store that he owns in town. Leo Foley, the high school English teacher from Fort McPherson, offered me a ride from our hotel to the Board office for our workshop, when we saw this odd figure on the opposite sidewalk. He was later identified as Kokanee Dave, so named because he's from B.C., a place where people are known to act and dress as though it were mild out year-round (which it usually is, much to the annoyance of the rest of us.)
