Welcome to the month that begins with Groundhog Day (up here it should be Lemming Day, or Rabbit Day, or Weasel Day). It seems to be unanimous: Wiarton Willie, Shubenacadie Sam and Punxsutawney Phil have all predicted a short winter and early spring. What will this mean for us here in Ulukhaktok? Combined with the effects of global warming, we should all be out in shorts, t-shirts, and sandals by April. Well, maybe by April of 2107. In the meantime, expect lots more outdoor pictures as we gain about 20 minutes more of daylight every day.
