What better way to celebrate my return to "the place where materials to make ulus are found" than by featuring on this month's cover a picture taken by Adam Kudlak of his latest ulu, made by him for one of a growing list of customers (a list which will soon include yours truly). I'm going to suggest that he name his new company "Ululemon" and go after the upscale yuppy/boomer market. I especially like the way he's made the brass part of the handle in the shape of an inukshuk.
Well, fall is unofficially upon us, Labour Day's come and gone, and some of my students are wearing white just to be wilfully unfashionable. Musk-oxen (mating season, don't you know), wolves, and wolverines galore have been spotted outside the town, so I'll have to be extra vigilant on my walks, and maybe, just maybe, I'll be blessed with a fabulous wildlife photo-op this month. I think I'm long overdue! I'm also hoping for an "Inuvialuit summer," so that I can make a few more long hikes before the cold, dark winter settles over us like a cold, dark winter. In the meantime, I hope you continue to enjoy these windows into my little Arctic world...
